What is an Amazing Book Talk?2020-05-01T01:10:37+00:00

A book talk has been defined as a short presentation about a book with the goal of convincing other people to read it. It is NOT a simple review or book report.  Rather, the goal of a book talk is to engage the participants with a fun, exciting, and even suspenseful commercial for a particular book.

For me, a book talk is much more!  It is a performance – literally!  I want to “hook” listeners using magic tricks, storytelling, puppets, puzzles, interactive games and more.  While most book talks are usually about 2-3 minutes, my talks are a bit more.  In fact, you might call refer to the “talks” on this site as a “Book Talks – PLUS!”

Here is a sample book talk from the Once Upon a Time series.  It is called The Tortoise and the Hare.

How much does it cost to subscribe to a Book Talk series?2020-05-29T18:07:12+00:00

The cost of a subscription depends upon several factors:

  1. number of users (can range from 1 – 1000+)
  2. unlimited, flexible or fixed plans
  3. length of the subscription (can range from 30, 60, 90 days or more)

What does it cost to add more days to a subscription?2020-05-29T18:45:03+00:00

The fixed and flexible plans automatically include 30-days.

During the signup, you may request additional time in 30 day increments.  The actual cost varies depending upon your plan.

If you would like more than 30-days consider the E-Z Unlimited Plan!

How long does a book talk last?2020-05-01T00:28:50+00:00

All the Amazing Book Talks are comprised of the following elements:

  • video (storytelling, magic, and/or puppet) routine performed in the studio by Steve
  • several sets fun activity sheets related to the session that you can download and share
  • a “how to” video teaching the secret behind a magic trick you can do at home
  • a series of related online resources (videos, games, puzzles, crafts, etc.)
  • a list of related books you may want to read

The actual time for the primary video will vary in length but most will average about 7-10 minutes.
The fun activity sheets are divided into four sections:  coloring, building, observing and learning.  The sheets can provide typical students with 30-60 minutes of activity.
The “how to” video is usually 1-2 minutes long but also includes a downloadable instruction sheet with puzzles and games which may take 10-15 minutes.
The online resources can provide unlimited time, but parents should monitor this use of the Internet.

What do kind of equipment or resources does a subscription require?2020-04-29T15:22:13+00:00

Amazing Book Talks require the following:

  • A working computer or device with speakers or sound
  • A good internet connection
  • Access to a printer and paper (if you want to print activity sheets, etc.)

Of course, it is always great to have a friend or parent to share the “talk” together.

How many book talks are in a series?2020-04-29T23:21:48+00:00

Amazing Book Talks are loosely based upon some of my reading shows at Amazing Teacher.  Right now, the Once Upon a Time series has 8 sessions.  If you were to combine just the video clips for all 8 book talks, they would total about 1 hour in length.  Compared to a live 45-50 minute show, book talks have a greater value (particularly during COVID-19).

Are there any multi-site subscriptions?2020-05-29T18:01:15+00:00

Yes.  If you are part of a system contact Steve for a custom no obligation quote.

Essentially, subscriptions are based upon several factors:

  1. number of users (can range from 1 – 1000+)
  2. unlimited, flexible or fixed plans
  3. length of the subscription (can range from 30, 60, 90 days or more)

However, there can be cost benefits to sharing a subscription.  The cost per user can be as low as .50 cents per user.

How does the subscription process work?2020-05-29T18:44:09+00:00

Good question!  All of the book talk content is protected by a membership system.  Most all of my videos are installed on Vimeo and are only available on the AmazingBookTalks.com site.  Access to a series of book talks depends upon the type of plan selected.
